All Seaham Golf Club Members over the age of 55 may join.  There is a small additional fee for the Seniors Section of £3 which covers additional prizes during the year.

You will find our Seniors are a friendly and relaxed bunch.  Our aim is to enjoy both the company and the golf.

When and where: Turn up and Mix in

The Seniors have reserved tee-off times between 09.00-10.00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays all year.

We meet in the Club locker room and put a ball into a bag and draw as many threeballs and fourballs as appropriate.  To be in the draw, ensure you’re in the locker room before 08.45 Tuesday and/or Thursday.

Seniors can, of course, join in all other appropriate Club fixtures.

There are several formal competitions competed for by Seniors only. These comps include a Matchplay championship, Club Vets, Seniors Captain’s day, Knockout tournament, Texas Scramble and several others. These comps take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, replacing the general turn-up and mix-in and most are random draw for partners.

Starting in September, we play a 10-round Turkey Trot (optional to enter) on a Tuesday or Thursday each week with generous prizes for the first three each week - handy for Christmas.

Beginning in January, we play a Winter Eclectic completion over 10 weeks, which aggregates your best scores obtained from the turn-up and mix-in sweeps.

There are small entry fees for most competitions.

Seniors Team Matches

We play 20 matches each year against Seniors Teams from other local clubs; 10 home and 10 away matches usually starting at 10:30.  These are fairly informal comps, Tea/coffee and biscuits before the match and a sit down meal to follow the match (small charge for the refreshments – no charge for the golf).

Any member of the Seniors section is eligible to play. The Seniors’ Captain chooses a team from a list of those who have signed the sheet showing interest and availability.

We host two Senior Open Competitions each year, typically in May and September.

We also usually have a 'Captains' Away Day' each year to different courses (Seahouses and Wooler recently).

The Seniors use the ‘whatsapp’ app on their mobile phones to send and receive information.
