Bobby's Banter

11th September

In the NERGA Blue League disappointingly we ended up propping up the league, playing a game less than all the other teams due to holiday commitments which left us in a no-win situation.

Our representative in the Finals Day singles competition will be Johnny 'Thunder' Whitehead who, with 3 best scores of 111, just pipped Anthony Thirkell by 2 points. This takes place on Saturday 13th October at Ramside Hall.  Good luck to John in this event.

I would like to thank all the members who played in the league events for supporting the Club, some really good days and hopefully a better season next year.

5th August

The Club Championship was won by David Patterson (69 and 70) giving 136.

Runner Up  was Craig Walton (75 and 68) giving  143

       Well Done David

In the Best Nett, the Murley Trophy was won by P Neal (68 and 62) giving 130

Runner Up was M Noble (67 and 65) giving 132

       Well Done Peter

31st July

A 9-5 victory over Chester-le-Street eased relegation worries and the season ended with a mid position for Team Seaham. A big thank you to D Patterson who motored down from Inverness, won his game and then travelled straight back.

24th July

Backsides are left twitching after a 11-3 defeat at Durham City points are now required to ensure First Division status, last game against Chester-le-Street.  A win by M Thompson and a Half  by skipper G Dixon gained the 3pts.

21st July

Seaham Rabbits traveled to Thirsk and with a depleted team ended 7th out of 8.  Top scorer being Will Rountree with 34pts.  Johnny "Thunder" Whitehead scoring 33pts, beating his lowest score and now leads the Race to Ramside by 3pts.  With being unable to field a team at Easingwold it's down to the last game at Catterick to heave us from the base of the league.

19th July

At the quarter finals of the Clarke Cup at home to Heworth, spectators witnessed a thrilling match.  At the half way stage we stared defeat in the face but a magnificent fight back saw Skipper G Dixon and K Booth winning matches and halving the game.  Stalwart D Patterson dormy 2 down won last two holes to take the game to extra holes.  Halving the first, sadly David lost out on the 20th hole.

17th July

A 10-4 defeat at Heworth sends backsides twitching a little with 2 games remaining.  Decent point scoring is still required, a win by S Pearson and halves by G Dixon and G Bainbridge secured our points.

10th July

After a drubbing at Ramside A the previous week, team Seaham with a depleted side hammered title favourites Brancepeth 11-3 to steady the ship in mid table.

After six rounds in the National Daily Mail Foursomes, Seaham pair S Laverick and K Dyson succumbed to a heavy defeat at Morpeth ending this years good run, by the lads' own admission they did not do themselves justice.

3rd July

As England conquered Columbia in the W/C Team Seaham had a really bad day at the office being defeated 14-0 by Ramside A.  So from being in a challenging position to be title contenders, the last few games have seen us at the wrong end of the table being dragged into a relegation dog fight showing how tight the whole league is.

30th June

Seaham Rabbits traveled to Romanby on a much praised course but in disappointing condition and finished 6th. Good knocks by S Turns 34pts and M Doggett 33pts being our best scorers. With three games left we stand 7th in the league but a good run could elevate us up the league to a respectable position although the title is out of the question.

In the Race to Ramside in the best 3 scores individual competition Johnny 'Thunder' Whitehead leads with 107pts second Anthony Thirkell - 106pts, Third Michael Doggett - 100pts.

26th June

On a foggy night, Team Seaham entertained lowly Consett in the league and were unusually defeated 9-5.

22nd June

A 4-1 defeat of Whitburn on their patch propelled Team Seaham into the quarter finals of the Clarke Cup two games going to extra holes and won  by skipper G Dixon and C Walton with another victory by K Booth sealed the tie which was closer than the result showed.

In the National Daily Mail Foursomes Seaham pair S Laverick and K Dyson received a W/O and progressed into the next round and along with Consett and Eaglescliffe being the only local teams left in the competition.

16th June

Seaham Rabbits travelled to South Moor and after two poor results we bounced back to claim 2nd place with all players scoring 30pts plus.  Top scorer being Johnny 'Thunder' Whitehead with 39pts.

12th June

With a massive 50pts score in the Tyneside Seniors Open, Tony Turner and John Boyle collected the winning prize.

12th and 19th of June two away games off the trot at Ch-Le-St and Boldon ended in to 8-6 defeats both decent performances picking up 12pts.

5th June

A severely depleted team hosted highly Durham City in the league and thrashed the title favourites 12-2.

3rd June

In the 5 Man Team Championships held at Consett Team, Seaham ended victorious with a best 4 gross score of 286 to win by 1 shot in the 24 team event.

2nd June

Seaham Rabbits played at Bishop Auckland in the NERGA Red Division. After a poor result at Whitby hoping to bounce back but in windy conditions we came last and picked up only 1 point.  Best individual again being Anthony Thirkell with 37pts and 6th position.

29th May

Disappointing home defeat by Heworth 5-9 pushed Team Seaham down to 4th in the table.

27th May

The County Members Spring Pairs at Boldon washed out due to inclement weather  in April was rescheduled last week on the 16th May and was won by Seaham pair W Lawson and J Cudlip - well done to Bill and Jeff.

22nd May

With the Team away to Brancepeth Castle in our next league game we suffered a 10-4 defeat.  Skipper Grant Dixon and Michael Trippett collecting the 4 points, not as bad as it sounds all matches went to the last two holes with the hosts ringing in a pile of birdies to clinch the most points.

21st May

Team Seaham traveled to Seaton Carew in the first round of the Clarke Cup against a very difficult high flying opponent.  We ran out 3-2 winners with wins by Captain Grant Dixon, Craig Walton and Michael Thompson.  Hopefully a good omen - the last time we played the Teeside Team we also defeated them on their patch and went onto to lift the trophy.

 17th May

Sunny Seaham Rabbits played at Whitby GC on a glorious day last Sunday 13th May.  Sadly not a good result coming 7th out of 8 in the team result.  The course was in fine condition but new to our team hence our disappointing result.

Congratulations to debutant  Anthony Thirkell who on 38pts was our best player and ended 6th overall in the individual event and the reliable old warhorse John Barnett 36pts who was 11th overall.

Next Rabbits game at B Auckland Sat 2nd June hoping for a better result.

Tues May 15 saw Team Seaham at home to Ramside A  in a very hard fought nip and tuck match.  We emerged 8-6 victors with wins for M Thompson, S Pearson and our new steward M Trippett.  Halved games from G Dixon and K Booth secured the 8pts keeping us second in the First Division.

15th May

The long awaited 2017 Individual NERGA Finals Tournament finally took place at The Ramside  GC on Sat 12th May with Seaham representative Will Rountree coming in at a creditable 14th position out of 35 with 33 points.

10th May

Second game in the NDGU 1st Division Seaham had the long journey to Consett and suffered a 8-6 defeat.  Wins by D Patterson 5 and 4 and both C Walton plus G Bainbridge winning games 1 up collected us a handy 6pts.

5th May

Sunny Seahams representatives Stef Laverick and Kevin Dyson in the National Daily Mail Foursomes advanced to the next round of the competition. After winning the first round by the toss of a coin due to inclement weather and correctly called by Bob Arthur, we defeated local rivals Houghton winning 2up and then beating Whitburn 5 and 4, so one or maybe two more local wins and we could be on our travels farther afield.

1st May

The NERGA Rabbits season kicked off on Sat 28th April here at Sunny Seaham - not the result we were looking for with coming in 4th position out of the 8 teams.  Top two scorers for Seaham being Will Rountree (38pts) and Johny 'Thunder' Whitehead (37pts), not a disaster but looking to improve in the next fixture. The event went well with quite a few teams from North Yorkshire liking our course and complementing us on the good state it was in so early in the season.

Sunny Seaham started the NDGU First Division Season with a home game against Boldon and dished out a 12-2 thrashing to the visitors.  Captain Grant Dixon started the ball rolling with a 4 and 3 victory in the opening match.  Wins also followed for D Patterson, K Booth, M Thompson and G Bainbridge, pride of place going to C Walton in his 6 and 5 victory, only S Pearson losing out on the last hole suffered a defeat.
